At a Sde Teiman desert camp, which holds Palestinians detained during Israel’s invasion of Gaza, an Israeli working at the facility snapped two photographs of a scene that he says continues to haunt him.
Rows of men in gray tracksuits are seen sitting on paper-thin mattresses, ringfenced by barbed wire. All appear blindfolded, their heads hanging heavy under the glare of floodlights.
A putrid stench filled the air and the room hummed with the men’s murmurs, the Israeli who was at the facility told CNN. Forbidden from speaking to each other, the detainees mumbled to themselves.
“We were told they were not allowed to move. They should sit upright. They’re not allowed to talk. Not allowed to peek under their blindfold.”
Guards were instructed “to scream uskot” – shut up in Arabic – and told to “pick people out that were problematic and punish them,” the source added.
They paint a picture of a facility where doctors sometimes amputated prisoners’ limbs due to injuries sustained from constant handcuffing; of medical procedures sometimes performed by underqualified medics earning it a reputation for being “a paradise for interns”; and where the air is filled with the smell of neglected wounds left to rot.
“They stripped them down of anything that resembles human beings,” said one whistleblower, who worked as a medic at the facility’s field hospital.
“(The beatings) were not done to gather intelligence. They were done out of revenge,” said another whistleblower. “It was punishment for what they (the Palestinians) did on October 7 and punishment for behavior in the camp.”
Gives lie to the myth that all this is about civilisation vs barbarism.
It is but the Europeans have always been the barbarians
@Freedom761wk1W
Excuse us white Christian male Europeans for building civilisation, abolishing worldwide slavery, saving the world from Adolf Hitler, creating the heritage of constitutional government and personal liberty, and using the free markets to lift billions out of poverty. We white Christian males built the world. And this is the thanks we get. Appreciate your gratitude.
The reason Israeli whistleblowers are leaking information to CNN about Israeli torture and war crimes within their detention facilities and army is because the government of Israel doesn't care.
In a Western military, if a whistleblower comes forward with an accusation of illegal activities, the whistleblower is protected and the abuse is investigated. In Israel, almost no abuses against non-Israeli Jews are investigated. So now they have to go anonymously to CNN.
Can’t wait for the expose on hamas treatment of its hostages and other detainees too.
Israel created Hamas.
@Freedom761wk1W
That's an extremely stupid thing to say
Kinda nuts how Israel treats these people. If any people on earth could be expected to treat an ethnic minority within their borders well I would have guessed it would be the Israelis, given their experience in Europe. I think they may have drawn the wrong conclusions!
They did not. Hamas is an extension of the Islamic brotherhood that Egypt has been fighting for years.
Abu Ghraib was down right civil in its treatment of prisoners by comparison.
These are war crimes and against humanitarian law. Shameful stuff from Israeli government.
The IDF seems to be quite content with treating Palestinians like Jews were treated in Germany in the 1930s. The IDF has also taken Palestinian land and homes and even burned their crops. We need media companies to do a deep dive into the depravity of the IDF
@Freedom761wk1W
Those poor murderous terrorists! How dare the genocidal Israelis deprive these wonderful and totally not-dangerous people of the spacious accommodations, memory foam beds, and hot tub spas that are their HUMAN RIGHTS!!! This is sure genocide if I ever saw one! All prisoners deserve hot-tubs. Hamas definitely knows this – Hamas definitely has GREAT prisons! Stupid right wing MAGA zealots.
if you'd been paying attention you'd know that--based on statements of released hostages--this comparison makes the zionist entity look even worse if that's possible
plenty of food, funds, secure facilities... what's their excuse for treating human beings worse than livestock?
@ISIDEWITH1wk1W
If given the chance, would you speak out against such conditions knowing it could have personal or professional repercussions?
@9MCD58K1wk1W
I would most definitely speak out against that genocide.
@ISIDEWITH1wk1W
How would you feel if someone you cared about was treated the way the detainees are described in this report?
@9MCBQZX1wk1W
I would not feel good about it and would be mad about it.
