Do you feel that your personal success should be attributed solely to your efforts, or do societal factors play a role?

I think your efforts and societal factors both play factors in your success. Yeah, you need to put in effort to succeed, but it doesn't come down to just that. There are other factors that you can't control that also play a part.

Societal factors absolutely play a role. For example, an individual born into a wealthy family is absolutely much more likely to succeed than someone raised in a low-income household.

Personal success should be almost completely due to your efforts.

It solely depends on what you are pushing your efforts and personal success to be acknowledged.
