How do you balance pride in your country’s achievements with an awareness of its historical or current shortcomings?

Pride in your country should not impede in the recognition of shortcomings. You should be able to recognize when the nation messed up or did something wrong, and make movements to fix the problem, not dig in your heels and double down.

For as long as humans have lived they have taken land from each other it’s how the world works and it still happens to this day

I think it is important to not only recognize, but to take action on our shortcomings. Until then, the "Pride" one feels is based only on platitudes
